Products Group is the market leader for high speed, high bandwidth
electrical connectors for the Telecom/Datacom market (Mobile
Networks, Storage, Servers, Routers, Switches, etc.). Our products
help to enable the electronics revolution and remain a key enabler
for all the major Tier 1 OEMs globally. Our global headquarters is
located in Nashua, NH and we have design, sales, and manufacturing
locations globally. We are currently seeking a Senior Product
Development Engineer to join our team located in Nashua, NH.
POSITION SUMMARY: We are seeking an experienced engineer to join
Amphenol CS's High Speed Backplane Product Development team. As a
Senior Product Development Engineer, the candidate will be one of
the mechanical design leads on our next generation high speed
connector products. This role is responsible for helping to ensure
the product roadmap aligns with the industry needs (current and
future), and maintaining Amphenol's status as the industry leader
in technology. In addition to being a design expert, the role
provides the opportunity, on the front end of the business, for
direct interaction with customers, and internal sales and marketing
teams. This role also requires significant interaction with
internal manufacturing sites, external vendors, and all of the
other engineering disciplines within the organization. Product
Development Engineering is not only responsible for the actual
product design, but also for the enabling technologies (materials,
manufacturing processes, etc) that enable the final product to be
realized. The responsibilities cover everything from true R&D
work, to securing patents (IP), to preparing a final product for
high volume manufacturing and maximum profitability. High speed
backplane interconnects enable most of the world's IT and datacom,
and require some of the most advanced manufacturing technologies,
and highest levels of precision, in the engineering world. These
challenges require the most creative, technical minds, and
ultimately provide some of the most rewarding experiences an
engineer could hope for. A strong candidate should be motivated by
technical challenges, know how to be a truly collaborative member
of a team, and be willing to wear a number of hats throughout the
many phases of a project. RESPONSIBILITIES: Understand the evolving
industry needs, and resultant requirements of our products.
Significant participation in automation design, working directly
with the NPI and Machine Design (automation) teams to ensure the
product design can be built in high volume, efficiently, and with
the highest of quality. Work directly with Signal Integrity (EE)
team to ensure the mechanical design supports the electrical
performance requirements of the product. Work directly with
Mechanical Integrity team to ensure the mechanical design provides
for a high reliability (quality) over the life of the product.
Including meeting all applicable industry, and internal,
specifications. Conduct, and understand, tolerance loop analyses.
Aid in material selection (metal, plastic, surface coatings, etc).
Develop initial product specifications and technical documentation.
Interface directly with customers during multiple phases of a
project, and aiding in the sales process. Work directly with
internal and external suppliers on Design for Manufacture (DFM),
prototyping exercises, production tooling design and
qualifications, and occasional travel to manufacturing and assembly
sites around the world. Provide technical assistance to product
marketing and sales teams. Participate in quality investigations
and quality improvement initiatives in support of operational
excellence. Participate in fixture/tooling design and in creating
and managing test plans (both mechanical and electrical). Active
participation in cost reduction projects (alternative material
discovery, manufacturing efficiency improvements, etc). Occasional
requirement of making presentations to upper management on
projects/development. Occasional required attendance of industry
trade shows, expositions, conferences. Qualifications: PhD in
Engineering (mechanical focused) preferred, or MS/BS in Mechanical
Engineering with significant experience in an electronics industry
Minimum of 10 years industry experience in design, preferably
within electronics industry Strong analytical and problem-solving
skills Highly capable with solid modeling/CAE/CAD tools (Creo,
Solidworks, etc.) High level of manufacturing technology experience
Experience in tolerance analysis Proficiency with MS Office suite
Good understanding of GD&T methodologies Familiarity with
patent (intellectual property) law, and the patent application
process Ability to communicate with both technical & non-technical
people Ability to work in a dynamic team environment Ability to
manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently Ability to travel
~10% domestic and international Additional: Knowledge of copper
alloys and high-performance engineering plastics Knowledge of
networking/datacenter/server system architectures Experience with
FEA tools Understanding of basic contact physics Basic
understanding of electrical engineering
