Job Description:
New England Biolabs (NEB) is seeking a driven Process
Development (PD) Scientist for an MSAT role within our expanding,
multidisciplinary PD group. The person in this position will work
closely with existing PD resources to establish scalable processing
solutions for our diverse product portfolio. Within this
fast-paced, dynamic, and collaborative work environment the
successful candidate will elevate the manufacturing of high-quality
reagents across multiple facilities.
Primary Responsibilities:
Conceive, plan, and execute technical projects at bench and pilot
scales in the areas of cell lysis and clarification with particular
goals to develop and characterize unit operations.
Investigate multiple methods of cell lysis (e.g. conventional
high-pressure homogenization, high shear microfluidization) and
clarification (e.g. tubular bowl and disc stack centrifuge, polymer
induced flocculation, depth filtration, tangential flow
filtration).
Establish techniques and metrics for process analysis including
turbidity, viscosity, particle size, product stability and
capture.
Develop scale-up/scale-down models with attention to equipment
options at various manufacturing facilities.
Collaborating in tech transfer of developed lysis and clarification
processes to manufacturing and supporting implementation.
Plan, coordinate and execute activities for process monitoring and
process data analysis.
Determine root causes of process variation and identify process
trends to increase efficiency.
Effectively organize, interpret, and present data to peers,
cross-functional teams, senior leadership, and colleagues.
Advocate for new bioprocessing and information technologies to help
advance manufacturing.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Engineering or related scientific
field with a minimum of 3 years of industry experience. An advanced
degree in a related field may be considered in lieu of
experience.
Hands-on experience with industrial methods of cell lysis and
clarification such as centrifugation, depth filtration, and
tangential flow filtration. Experience at multiple scales
preferred.
Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to solve complex
technical issues.
Ability to compile, analyze and interpret data.
Communicate effectively across multifunctional teams.
Flexible, adaptable, and desire to take on new technology
challenges and broaden skill set.
Working knowledge of microbial fermentation and protein
purification.
