worldwide. Position Summary The Forensic Chemist II supports the
908 Devices' portfolio of field-portable chemical detection and
identification devices. The position remotely supports the efforts
of law enforcement, emergency responders, and R&D partners
through spectral review of analytical data from fielded users on
high pressure mass spectrometers, FTIR, and Raman devices. The
Forensic Chemist II position further partners with R&D, Product
Management to monitor emerging trends in controlled substance
analysis, explosives, hazardous materials, and other relevant
industries to identify essential library additions. The Forensic
Chemist is an advocate for customer needs, analytical best
practices, and scientific integrity in the management of the
development process. Key Responsibilities Review customer handheld
data to provide preliminary analysis and further guidance Recognize
when additional verification testing or analysis is needed prior to
submitting results to customers Investigate and troubleshoot
results that appear to be anomalies or out of trend Ability to make
keen observations on process anomalies, recommend process
improvements, and articulate findings. Incorporate subject matter
expertise into data interpretation, and recognize potential
false-positives, and when additional verification testing or
analysis is needed prior to submitting results to customers Respond
by phone/email/chat to client inquiries related to difficulties,
questions or data review Provide verbal and written reports for
data analyzed in a timely manner Observe and document trends in
data analysis and report findings Partner with other team members
to develop and improve processes for service and logistics Work
with our Field Forensic Applications team to enhance overall
customer experience Collaborate with the larger forensic science
community through conferences, and customer interactions
Participate in the onboarding and training of new analysts Observe
and document emerging drug trends worldwide, order and test
chemical standards as necessary, and create reference spectra for
library addition Skills & Qualifications: Exposure to chemical
instrumentation, and the interpretation of said data. Examples
include mass spectrometry, Raman, FTIR, and NMR. Knowledge of the
chemistry of drugs, explosives, pesticides, industrial toxins.
Concise communication of scientific information in both oral and
written formats to technical and non-technical audiences. The
ability to engage with customers from a variety of backgrounds and
experiences. Understanding of the importance of standard operating
procedures (SOPs) as it pertains to forensic science. Previous
hands-on time with portable analytical systems. Hazmat, CBRNE or
forensics familiarity or direct experience. Experience in some
customer service areas (retail, restaurant). Ability to think
critically and demonstrate troubleshooting/problem solving skills
Analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic
scientific, mathematical, or technical principles. Ability to pay
close attention to detail to carefully follow analytical procedures
without losing sight of the bigger picture. Ability to articulate
findings to multidisciplinary teams and customers with a variety of
backgrounds in a manner that is thorough and easy to understand.
Education & Experience: Master's Degree in: Chemistry, Forensic
Science or similar concentrations or Bachelor's Degree in:
Chemistry, Forensic Science or similar concentrations with 2 years
of experience in a laboratory setting Additional Information:
Location: This is a hybrid positions with work from home days and
days worked from our Burlington, MA headquarters Compensation: The
annualized base pay range for this position at the commencement of
employment is expected to be between $70,000 and $90,000 per year;
the base pay offered may vary depending on several individualized
factors, including market location, job-related skills, and
experience. This position may also be eligible to receive
additional compensation, such as an annual incentive bonus, sales
